Karen L. Steeg

August 27, 1937 — April 7, 2011

NORWALK, CONN Karen Steeg, a longtime Norwalk resident, age 73, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2011 after a long illness. She was an accomplished realtor, working for many years at Professional Realty before opening Steeg Associates Realty. Long active in the community, she served in several capacities including briefly as Chair of the Norwalk Democratic Town Committee. Born on August 27, 1937 in Indianapolis, IN to the late James D. Lee and Mary Jane Heskett Lee, she and her husband moved to New York City in 1960 and then to Norwalk in 1963. She graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis and received her B.A. in English from Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana, having spent a year studying abroad at the University of Exeter in England. During college she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She attended post-graduate courses at Indiana University in Bloomington, and years later went back to school, studying at Norwalk Community College and becoming a Registered Nurse. Karen was a member of the American Association of University Women and was a longstanding and grateful member of a local support group. She was known for her intelligence, warmth and sense of humor. It has been said that she lit up a room by just entering it. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends. Karen is pre-deceased by her husband of 50 years, Richard. Her children Evan Steeg of Kingston, Ontario and Barbara Steeg of Columbus, Ohio; grandchild Nadia Abudi of Chicago; brother James H. Lee of Novato, California and sister Susan Lee Hauser of Reno, Nevada; and several nieces and nephews survive her. Calling hours, a brief memorial service and reception will be held at the Norwalk Inn, 99 East Avenue, between 2pm and 5pm on Saturday April 23, 2011.
