Resident of Norwalk Joseph F. Sansaverino, age 77, beloved husband to Velda Caffrey Sansaverino, passed away on October 29, 2015 in Danbury, CT. He was born on November 21, 1937 on the lower east side in New York City and was a son to the late Joseph & Mary Sansaverino. From the beginning, Joe was destined for a life of many accomplishments, starting with his early graduation from high school with honors. He enlisted in the Army at age 17 and became a proud Serviceman for three years where he was valued for his keen draftsman skills in Paris. Upon return from the Army, Joe pursued his college studies at Westchester Community College and Pace University, being the first in his family to graduate from college. His work ethic and dedication to advancement was exemplified in the years that followed by a successful career, where he led North American Human Resources of Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising in New York City. During his life, of greatest importance to Joe was his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Velda, and a loving father and mentor to his three surviving children, Joseph J. Sansaverino (of New York City), David P. Sansaverino (of Atlanta) and Christine Llewellyn (of Ridgefield). His love of family is carried on through his wife, children and their spouses, and six cherished grandchildren. In addition to his family and career, Joe found time to pursue many hobbies, including his love of food, music and the arts. In the winter months, Joe would hit the ski slopes with his family and in the summer months, he could be found on the water with his sailboat, Spellbound. Since childhood, Joe avidly followed baseball and with his two sons became life-long Yankees fans. Joe was deeply guided by his faith, which acted as a compass to him and his wife, Velda, through the years. He was an active parishioner of both St. Thomas More Church of Darien and St. Matthew Church of Norwalk. He is remembered by his family and friends as a genuine, compassionate, sweet man. Friends are invited to celebrate Joe's life at a memorial mass on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave. in Norwalk, followed by lunch at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe's name may be sent to the Westchester Community College Foundation, which will distribute scholarship money to worthy students.
