Joseph F. Martucci, Jr.

April 8, 1949 — June 28, 2010

WILTON RESIDENT Joseph Francis Martucci Jr. passed away peacefully at home on June 28, 2010 after a long struggle with cancer. Born in Queens, New York on April 8, 1949, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph and Ella (DiCicco) Martucci. He graduated in 1966 from Mater Christi Diocesan High School in Astoria, New York, and in 1971 from the Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. in chemical engineering. He devoted much of his career to GE Capital and later fulfilled a longtime goal, securing a position as a marketmaker on the American Stock Exchange. In later years he enjoyed a few well-deserved vacations, some great books, and much quality time with his family. As a young man, Joseph was an excellent bowler, a sharp card player and an avid baseball fan. He collected stamps and coins throughout his life, reveling in their nearly infinite variety. Joseph met his wife, Diane (Fruchter), in New York and the two married in 1977, moving first to a small apartment in Queens, New York and later to Yorktown Heights, New York, before moving to Connecticut in 1984. He took pride in the home he and Diane had made, and when he wasn't working he would set about various projects around the house and yard. He also enjoyed the travel his job with GE required of him, especially to Colorado and the West Coast. Always a devoted husband and father, Joseph is survived by his Diane, his wife, who selflessly devoted herself to his care during the last months; Brian, his son; Letricia Iovino, his sister; her husband Phil, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Joseph's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 2:00PM - 4:00PM and 6:00PM - 8:00PM. His funeral will be held on Thursday, July 01, 2010 at 9:30AM from the parlor, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 229 Danbury Road, Wilton, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Wilton. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Smilow Cancer Center at Yale in New Haven or the Whittingham Cancer Center at Norwalk Hospital.
