SANDY HOOK - NORWALK CT John E. Swaim, Sr. of Sandy Hook, former long time resident of Norwalk passed away on Tuesday, March 09, 2010 in Manhattan following an illness. He was 70. He was the husband of forty-four years to Marilyn (Parenty) Swaim. Born in Norwalk on July 02, 1939, John was the son of the late James E. and Doris (Kitchens) Swaim and was raised in Westport. He was a 1958 graduate of Staples High School and resided in Westport until 1958. He continued his education in Tennessee at the Nashville Auto Diesel School, where he graduated in 1959. John served in the US Marine Corps for four years and settled in Norwalk upon his return. It wasn't until 2004, that he relocated to Sandy Hook with his beloved wife, Marilyn. He owned and operated Swaim's Refuse Co. of Weston for 30 years. He was a man of Christian Faith and was a forty-five year member of the Norwalk Nazarene Church and a recent member of the Newtown Faith Church. John enjoyed traveling throughout the country with his wife beside him. He also had a passion for trucks, camping and any activity that involved the outdoors. As busy as John was with his business and past time activities, his family came first and will be missed by all. Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons, John E. Swaim, Jr. and Jason R. Swaim, both of Sandy Hook; two daughters, Lisa A. and her husband, Angelo Palmieri, Sr. of Seymour and Kathleen M. and her husband, John D. Walker of Victoria, TX; five grandchildren, Angelo Jr., Daniel, Ashlyn, Austin and Alyssa and one niece. Preceding in death were a brother, Robert Swaim and a sister, Linda Nelson. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, March 12, 2010 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 4:00PM - 8:00PM. His funeral will be celebrated on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 10:00AM in the parlor with Rev. Timothy R. Kuhn to officiate. Interment with full military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk. The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering of Manhattan, NY.
