NORWALK, CONN John M. Moritz, 56, died suddenly at his home In Norwalk on September 11, 2011. He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on December 30, 1954, the son of the late John O. and Frances Martin Moritz. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, John was a chef for Culinart, a corporate food service company. Earlier in his career, he was a chef at several Fairfield County restaurants and the owner of Melange in South Norwalk. In the 1980's, he explored the southern United States and its cuisine, working in restaurants and hotels in Atlanta, New Orleans, Phoenix and Kiawah Island, South Carolina. John devoted much of his life to the Boy Scouts, serving as a unit commissioner and Cub Master of Pack 98 at NEON, South Norwalk. He enjoyed camping, kayaking and working on Eagle and service projects with Norwalk's Troop 2. The pride of his life was his son, .JC., and he watched proudly as J.C. was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout this past August. He leaves his wife, Lynn Sadlon; son, John Charles (J.C.) Moritz, sisters Cynthia Neufeld of Roanoke, Virginia and Gail Liebelt of Cypress, Texas; step-mother Jean Moritz of Palmyra, Virginia; step-sister Judi Parsons of Charlottesville, Virginia; step-brother Jeffrey Vilagos of Tampa, Florida; cousin Chris Wiberg of Rockport, Massachusetts; seven beloved nieces and nephews: Steven Liebelt, Colter Neufeld, and Charlie Ross, Cessie Neufeld, Christina and Jessica Liebelt, and Abby Ross. Not to be forgotten, he leaves his beloved cat, Simba. A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 08, 2011 at 10:30AM in the United Church of Rowayton, 210 Rowayton Avenue, Rowayton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut Yankee Council, BSA, 60 Wellington Road, Milford, Connecticut 06460. Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.
