John Catalano

John “Giovanni” Catalano age 87, of Norwalk passed away peacefully on Monday August 13, 2018 at Stamford Hospital surrounded by loved ones.  He was born on January 4, 1931 in Sicily, Italy to the late Francesco and Gaetana Limone Catalano. Besides his parents John was predeceased by his loving wife of 49 years, Angie Scandunna Catalano in 2003. John was also predeceased by his older brother Sebastian Catalano in 2016.

John was a baker by trade owning his own bakery in the Bronx from 1955 to 1970. He sold the business and worked as a mechanic at Wonder Hostess until his retirement in 2004. John was an active member in the Norwalk and Westport Senior Centers, loved Bocce and enjoyed playing poker. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather; he will be missed by his family and friends very much.

John is survived by his loving daughter Tina Cappiello, his granddaughter Cherie Duque and her husband Fredy, grandson Gary Cappiello, and his great grand children Alexandra and Gabriel Duque. He is also survived by his brother Angelo Catalano and sister Lucia Catalano of Sicily, Italy.

Friends are invited to greet the family on Thursday August 16, 2018 from 4:00 till 8:00 pm at the Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street in Historic Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11:30 am at St. Matthew’s Church, 216 Scibneral Ave. Norwalk. Entombment will follow at Ferncliff Mausoleum in Hartsdale, NY.
