BERES-John Beres age 78, beloved husband of Janet Beres of Norwalk, died Friday February 8, 2013. Mr. Beres was born on December 10, 1934 in Revleanyvar, Hungary and was a son to the late Janos and Zsofie Fulop Beres. He came to the United States in 1956 after the Hungarian Revolution and eventually settled in Norwalk, CT where he met his wife Janet. John was the owner and operator of John's Texaco on Riverside Avenue in Westport and later of John's Auto Center on Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk. He was a loving husband and father who encouraged his children to be independent, instilled in them the value of hard work and supported them at every turn in life. Second only to the love for his family was his love for his garden. As an avid year-round gardener, his devotion to growing his own vegetables was more of a calling than a hobby. He grew far more vegetables than any one family could consume and graciously shared his bounty with friends and neighbors. Known as Nagy to his grandchildren, he delighted in teaching them the art of growing their own food by helping them tend their own gardens that he had created for them. Survivors, in addition to his loving wife of 51 years, include two sons, Joseph Beres of Norwalk; John Peter Beres and his wife Sarah; a daughter Jennifer Beres of Fairfield; a sister Erzsebet Madonecz in Hungary and three cherished grandchildren, Norah, Samuel and Sophia Beres. He was predeceased by two brothers, Laszlo and Steve Beres. Memorial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Norwalk Senior Center, 11 Allen Road, Norwalk, CT 06851. Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street has been entrusted with arrangements. Please visit www.norwalkfh.com
