Janet Kolb Rapp transitioned peacefully into the Lord’s Kingdom at her home in Connecticut on September 14, 2021. She was surrounded with the love of family and friends after a brief illness. She was 87 years young.
Janet was born September 6, 1934 to Joseph R. Kolb, Sr. and Mabelle Palmer Kolb in White Plains, New York. Janet grew up on Lake Waccabuc, New York and she would often tell many wonderful stories of her fond memories of life on the lake with her family and brother Sam. Janet was graduated from Katonah High School, now John Jay High School, and Oneonta State Teachers College. Afterwards, she was employed in the Human Resources Department at The National Bank of Westchester before working in the family business, Joseph R. Kolb, Sr. Contracting, Inc. Later, Janet became a bond attorney for the insurance agency Knox, Lent, and Tucker in White Plains, New York. Upon retiring, she and her husband, Henry C. Rapp, Jr., moved to Ashland, New Hampshire. Always the social butterfly, Janet became a member of the Ashland Woman’s Club, President of her condo association, and volunteered at Spear Memorial Hospital in Plymouth, New Hampshire in various capacities, including knitting caps for the hospitals’ newborns. After the passing of her husband, Janet moved to Norwalk, Connecticut where she became a very active member at St. Paul’s on The Green in Norwalk. She volunteered there in numerous roles, and as an expert knitter, she embraced her ministry as part of the knitting group, where she knitted prayer shawls.
Janet is survived by her son Henry C. Rapp III, D.M.D. of Westport, Connecticut, her nephew Ret. Col. Joseph. R. Kolb III, M.D. of Evergreen Colorado, nieces Donna Kolb Shores and Susan Kolb Jarosz both of Cortlandt Manor, New York, as well as many grand, great grand, and great great grand nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mabelle Kolb, her stepmother, Ethel Hecker Kolb, her husband of fifty-four years, Henry C. Rapp, Jr., her brother Joseph R. Kolb, Jr.(Sam), stepsister Virginia Bremen of White Plains, New York, and her Goddaughter Joy Ellen Lynch of Hainesport, New Jersey.
A memorial service will be held on October 9, 2021 at 11:00 am DIRECTLY at St. Paul’s on The Green Episcopal Church, Norwalk, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: St. Paul's Church at http://www.stpaulsnorwalk.org/memorial
