James L. Soderstrom

June 11, 1931 — January 16, 2022

James Soderstrom 90, of Norwalk, CT.  Beloved Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Uncle died peacefully in his home on Sunday, January 16, 2022. James was born June 11, 1931 the son of the late Dorothy and Louis Soderstrom. He was predeceased by his sister Marilyn Soderstrom Langer. He is survived by his children, John Soderstrom (Annette) of Norwalk. Thomas Soderstrom (Susan) of Kent. Robin Soderstrom Schuyler (Paul) of Danbury. Also, by former wife Joan Soderstrom of Danbury, and Seven Grandchildren: David, Kevin, Lindsey, Dan, Tommy, Carly and Shane. Great Grandchildren, Sophia and Zack and Olivia. His nephew Kirk Langer and niece Gwen Langer. Cousins, Fabian Soderstrom and Kris Soderstrom.

James graduated from Norwalk High School in 1949. James served as a Corporal in The Korean War, 7 th Cavalry Division from 1952-1954. He earned many medals including rifle-pistol-cardine, UN KOREAN SERVICE, NATIONAL DEFENSE, and ROK WAR Awards. He spoke with pride of serving his country. James worked briefly for a tree company before finding his career at Southern New England Telephone where he was an installer and repairman and known affectionately as Whitey for 38 years until his retirement in 1993.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman and loved sharing this passion with many camping trips and hiking trips with his children including The Appalachian Trail even bringing along the family dog. Jim also enjoyed fishing, canoeing and all outdoor activity. He loved animals and had a special way with them. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit and his unselfish heart.

He gave of himself and his time for anyone who needed it. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He leaves a legacy of how to live and treat others in the world.  James was a true gentleman who and always put others before himself. He loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered for telling many great stories from his phone company work, his days in Korea, and camping and hiking. He will be truly missed by all who had been lucky enough to know him.
