James M. Marino

WILTON/STAMFORD, CONN. James M. Marino of Wilton, former Stamford bakery owner, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 10, 2010 in Norwalk Hospital. He was 82. His beloved wife of 52 years, Marie M. (Portunato) Marino passed away in 2005. Born in Port Chester, New York on May 28, 1927, Jim was the son of the late Anthony and Mary (Kralich) Marino and in 1940, moved to Stamford.. He was a 1945 graduate of Stamford High School and served in the United States Marine Corps. Upon his return home from the service, Jim continued to work for his family's bakery, the former Kralich's Colonial Bakery of Stamford. Following the death of his grandfather, he continued the family tradition of serving Stamford residents for more than thirty-five years at the bakery until his retirement in 1988. A devout Catholic, Jim was a member of St. Mary's R.C.. Church of Stamford and its Christian Family Movement organization. He and his late wife created lifelong friendships within the group and enjoyed many family gatherings throughout the years. Jim was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Halloween Yacht Club. He was a kind and generous man who enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. Jim also enjoyed fishing and was an avid Mets fan. Jim is survived by five sons, Michael Marino of Wilton, Paul and his wife, Kim of Norwalk, Chris and his wife, Jackie of Milford, David and his wife, Debbie of Redding and Douglas of Phoenix, AZ; three daughters, Linda Davis of Columbia, SC, Anne and her husband, Vincent Serella of Waterbury and Cynthia and her husband, Scott Gramling of Ridgefield; thirteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death were a brother, Frank Marino and nephew, Kenneth Marino. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, January 15, 2010 in St. Philip R.C. Church, 25 France Street, Norwalk from 9:00AM to 10:00AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of sending flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St.. Philip R.C. Church or a charity of one's choice. The family has selected Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street to assist them in the arrangements.
