NORWALK, CONN. Jacques P. Desmonts of Norwalk, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 in his home after a long and courageous fight against cancer. He was 70 years of age. Born in Bernay, France on January 5, 1938, he was the son of the late Marcel and Gisele (Auger) Desmonts. Jacques completed his studies and served in the French military. Several years later, he emigrated to the States where he resided in Stamford. On May 15, 1965, he married his beloved wife of forty-three years, Theodora M. (Alvarado) Desmonts of Lima, Peru. Together, they raised their two boys and in 1978 settled in Norwalk. Jacques' studies back home led him into the field of bookbinding and restoration. He worked many years for the James Macdonald Co. Inc, originally of New York. Upon the death of Mr. Macdonald, Jacques assumed ownership of the company and following its 100th year in business, relocated it to Norwalk. He owned and operated the company until the time of his death. His love of travel provided him a special appreciation of diverse cultures and the earth's natural beauty. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons; Eric M. and his wife Hallie L. Desmonts of Ridgewood, NJ; Dominique A. and his wife, Marcia J. Desmonts of Norwalk; a brother, Marceau and his wife, Simone Desmonts of Bernay, France; a sister, Francine Hammond of Stamford; four grandchildren, Braeden T., Caroline G., Lexie B. and Luc G. Desmonts as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jacques' family will receive friends on Sunday, October 26, 2008 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street, from 1:00PM to 3:00PM. A repast will follow at the Norwalk Inn, 99 East Avenue, Norwalk. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Whittingham Cancer Center, Norwalk Hospital, Maple Street, Norwalk, CT 06856.
