In Loving Memory of Ismael Hugo “Hugo” Lara Magan
September 25, 1927 – September 28, 2025
With profound love and gratitude, the family of Ismael Hugo Lara Magan announces his passing on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the age of 98.
Born on September 25, 1927, Hugo emigrated from Peru in 1983, following his four children to the United States and making his home near them in the Fairfield County area. He thrived in community—surrounded by friends, always ready to attend any cultural event (and help in any way), and known for his unforgettable love of tango, which he shared with style and joy. An exceptional cook, Hugo delighted everyone with traditional Peruvian dishes that carried the flavors of home. Each year, he returned to his native country with suitcases full of clothing to share with those in need—a quiet testament to his generous heart.
He is lovingly survived by his five children: Maria, José (with his wife, Liliana), Rosa (with her husband, Stephen), Federico, and Hugo; his beloved stepdaughter, Nancy; his grandchildren, Stephen Jr., Nitza, Zoe, and Lucas; and his great-grandchildren, Santiago and Sebastian.
“A party wasn’t a party if Hugo wasn’t there.” Known for being dressed to the nines—as if stepping out of the 1920s—Hugo brought elegance, music, and laughter wherever he went.
