Ignazio Zaffuto

Ignazio (Nat) Zaffuto, 97, of Trumbull, CT passed away peacefully on August 6, 2019 at the Carolton Convalescent Home in Fairfield, CT.  He was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 13, 1922 to the late Angelo and Rosalia Zaffuto.

He was a proud veteran who served in the United States Army during World War II both in the United States and overseas in the capacity of soldier, medic and military police. He was a longtime employee of the New York City Transit Authority where before retirement was a Railroad Clerk and then Station Supervisor.

Nat loved spending time with his family and traveling with his wife, Palma. He was an avid NY Yankee fan and enjoyed reading books about the history of the Yankees and WWII. He recorded and watched many movies on TV. Nat and Palma were longtime members of the Merrick, NY Senior Center.

Nat is survived by his loving son Richard and his wife Theresa of Trumbull, CT, his daughter-in-law Gwen Zaffuto of Merrick, NY, and his grandchildren Kristin Harrington and her husband Daniel of Enfield, NH, Keith Zaffuto and his wife Shannon of Trumbull, CT, Thomas Zaffuto and his wife Kathryn of North Bellmore, NY, and his great grandson Matthew of Enfield, NH.

In addition to his parents, Nat was predeceased by his wife Palma, his son Tom, brothers Angelo, George, Vincent (Jim), and his sister Anna, and great granddaughter Annalee Rose Harrington.

Friends are invited to greet the family on Monday, August 12, 2019, from 8:30 - 10:00 am at the Hoyt-Cognetta/Lesko Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street, In Historic Norwalk.  A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am at St. Philip’s Church, 1 Father Conlon Place, Norwalk, CT  Interment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY with full military honors.
