FRUECHTENICHT - Herma Fruechtenicht, a longtime New Fairfield resident and former Danbury business owner, passed away on Monday, March 05, 2012 in the Pope John Paul II Health Center of Danbury, following an illness. She was the daughter of the late Paul Wilhelm and Frieda Anna (Otto) Ness, Herma was born, raised, and educated in Bremerhaven, Germany. During that time, she met and married her beloved husband, Otto Hermann Fruechtenicht of 53 years, who died in 2000. Along with her husband, Herma emigrated to the United States in 1952 and resided in Norwalk, Connecticut and subsequently called New Fairfield, Connecticut their home. Herma and Otto both owned and operated the former Danbury Business Machines Company for nearly forty years until their retirement. Proud of her German heritage, Herma loved sharing the culture by cooking various meals and was known for her extraordinary baking skills. It was often that she would be found baking authentic German pastries and cakes that were of highest quality. Herma is survived by her son, Errol and his wife, Gail P. (Setaro) Fruechtenicht of Danbury and her granddaughters, Kristin L. Fruechtenicht of Danbury and Lara E. Jones of Thomaston, GA. Preceding in death was her son, Walter Fruechtenicht. A Memorial Service to celebrate Herma's life will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 in The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Route 37 and Colonial Road, New Fairfield 06812 at 11:00AM. Interment will be held privately, at a later date. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions in her name may be made to The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepard.
