WESTPORT, CONN Haido A. Yannopoulos age 78, of Westport, passed away February 4, 2012 in Norwalk Hospital. She was born April 13, 1933 in Thebes, Greece to the late Panos and Vasili Koula Pelekanou. At the prompting of her family - Mrs. Yannopoulos, having always been at the top of her classes throughout her adolescent life, chose to leave her native Thebes in her late teens- early twenties to follow her deep seated desire for advanced education, living with her Aunt Eleni in Athens and attending University in Athens to pursue a course of study in Higher Education and her dream to become an accredited teacher and return to the village of her birth to pursue her passion of teaching the children of the Thebes area. Mrs. Yannopoulos graduated with a degree in teaching but then eventually chose to dedicate her life to her late husband, John C. Yannopoulos and her two loving sons, Constantin J. "Dino" Yannopoulos and Panos Yannopoulos, both of Westport, CT having come to the realization that "Of all the rights and pursuits available to a woman - the greatest is to be a Mother". This commitment to her family did not prevent her from being an active volunteer at both area Hospitals and at the Churches which she frequented. "All that we as her sons ARE, or ever hope to be, we owe to our devoted Mother, Haido Yannopoulos - may she rest in peace........" The Yannopoulos family will receive friends on Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 4 - 8 P.M. in the Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home and Crematory, 5 East Wall Street, Norwalk. A prayer service will be held in the parlor at 7:30PM. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
