JOHNSON-Grace M. Johnson, affectionately known as Gracie' or Aunt Gracie', 77, of Norwalk, passed away on August 26, 2012 at Norwalk Hospital, following a battle with aggressive brain cancer with her loving daughter Judith and boyfriend Mike by her side. She fought hard till the very end. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. George I. Johnson JR, DDS, for 26 years. Born May 21, 1935 in Norwalk, Ct, Grace was the daughter of the late Charles Russell Taylor Sr and Dorothy Vincent Taylor, both of Norwalk. Grace was a proud life-long Norwalk resident and enjoyed all aspects the town had to offer, including Calf Pasture beach, whether it was watching volleyball or softball games, taking walks or just sitting in her car and reading and relaxing. She also enjoyed hands on experiences in the Maritime Center, the Norwalk Oyster Festival and SoNo Arts Festival, and socializing with her numerous family and friends. She was a loving wife and mother and avid sports fan, who came to all her children's sporting events, always cheering loudly and was a dedicated coordinator to assist in the Saturday Academy, which helps children excel in the areas of math, science, and computers and helps prepare them for a brighter future. Grace was a graduate of Norwalk High School and attended courses at Katharine Gibbs School in Norwalk. Grace was a dedicated SportsCenter fan and enjoyed watching NCAA as well as professional sports of all types including basketball, volleyball, swimming, football, and tennis, among others. Having three children who are UCONN alumni, she enjoyed watching the UCONN Huskies in all aspects. Grace enjoyed knitting and crocheting and thoroughly enjoyed cooking. Thanksgiving was always a great feast when she hosted it at her home, and all were welcome with open arms. Grace also enjoyed all aspects of music and theater and loved The Sound of Music and The Nutcracker. She had a beautiful voice to sing along to these musicals. She was an active member of the Norwalk United Methodist Church and enjoyed hosting the after-service luncheons and meeting new people, and enjoyed all of life's gifts that God gave her. She loved all kinds of animals. Grace loved listening to musical artists such as Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis and Doris Day among others. Grace, who has been retired for many years, worked as a medical transcriptionist at Norwalk Hospital for 8 years after being a full-time homemaker to her children up to their teen years. While working at the hospital, she developed great rapport with the doctors, nurses and other staff. You could always count on Grace to get that report done and answer any questions with a smile.
