Gloria E. Ryan departed this life on November 22, 2013. She was the wife of the late James M. Ryan. She was born on August 29, 1922 in Stamford, CT to the late Francis F. and Sarah S. Watson. Gloria was a member of St. Leo Parish from 1963 to 1972 and St. Cecelia Parish from 1972 to 2000.Her heart was taken care of her family and was a wonderful homemaker most of her life. She worked with her husband, the late James M. Ryan, at Lakeside Diner, his place of business, in the 1960's. She was an employee of Pitney Bowes from 1977 to 1987. Gloria was a great swimmer and loved the ocean and the tranquility of the Long Island Sound. She especially liked walks in the sunlight with her stylish hats and scarf's blowing in the wind. She will be missed. Gloria was the beloved mother of James M. Ryan, Jr. of Dunnellon, Fl., Lynn E. Ryan of Norwalk, and Mary R. Vlandis of Lynchburg, VA. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Bethany Vlandis of Lynchburg, VA. And five grandsons, Logan Vlandis of Lynchburg, VA. David Ryan of Lakeland, Fl., Daniel Ryan of Liverpool, England, James Ryan and Bill Ryan both of New York. She was predecease by her nine sibling; Margaret Watson LaCroix, Catherine Watson Black, Frances Watson Strickman, Eleanor Watson Doyle, Cecilia Watson Gillan, William Joseph Watson, Ann Rita Watson Troutman, Frank Watson and James Watson. Friends are invited to greet the family on Tuesday November 26, 2013 from 9:30 to 11:30 am in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon in St. Jerome Church, Norwalk. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Darien. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl. Memphis, TN 38105.
