Giuseppe Mercuri, 94, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on May 20, 2026.
Giuseppe was born on May 19, 1932, in Lamezia Terme, Italy, and was the son of the late Giuseppe and Concetta (Scalise) Mercuri.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Giuseppina Mastroianni Mercuri, and his son, Eugenio Mercuri.
Giuseppe is survived by his loving daughter, Concetta (Francesco) Cerra, and his beloved son, Vincenzo (Caterina) Mercuri. He is also survived by his grandsons, Giovanni and Giuseppe Cerra; Giuseppe and Gino Mercuri; and Giuseppe, Vincenzo, and Marcello Mercuri. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Isabella, Gianni, Gianna, Giuliana, Daniela Cerra, and Melina, Mila, Vincenzo, and Mia Mercuri.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Francesca (Ugo) Gigliotti, and his brother-in-law, Giuseppe (Angela) Mastroianni.
In addition to his wife and son, Giuseppe was predeceased by his siblings, Vincenzo, Pasquale, Giovanna, Rosina, Pietro, and Vincenza Mercuri, all of Italy; and by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Anna and Frank Bonaddio, and Maria and Raffaele Longo, all of Norwalk.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Norwalk and Italy.
Giuseppe and his wife immigrated to Norwalk in 1972. Upon arriving, he joined Connecticut Laborers Union 146, where he worked for many years. Giuseppe was a hardworking man who was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed. He took great pride in growing his large vegetable and flower gardens. He also loved making homemade wine and sopressata each year.
Giuseppe always had a warm smile on his face and a wonderful sense of humor that brought laughter to those around him.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street, Norwalk.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, where Giuseppe will be laid to rest.
