Gerardo L. Conte, a fifty-two year resident of Norwalk, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2012 in Norwalk Hospital. He was 95. Born in Barano Di'Ischi, Italy to the late Gennaro and Maria Rose (D'Iorio) Conte on June 1st, 1917. Gerardo was raised in Italy where he attended school and later served the Italian Navy for seven years during WWII. He greatly enjoyed making wine and was an avid gardener, he was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and husband who was always there for his family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Emma Conte of Norwalk. His daughter Rose (Conte) Mattera and husband Salvatore of Norwalk, his son Gennaro Conte of Norwalk. His two loving granddaughters Mary Catherine and husband Peter Millard of Madison, along with Jennifer and husband James Mills of Fairfield. Also surviving are his four great-grandchildren Ryan, Max, Tyler, and Alexa. Many nieces and nephews survive him as well, here and in Italy. Besides his parents Gerardo is predeceased by three brothers Vincenzo, Carlo, and Adolf, his four sisters Carmel Faugno, Iolanda Conte, Giuseppina D'Iorio and Clotilta Tiretti. A procession will be leaving the Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street, Norwalk, CT 06851 on Thursday, December 27th, 2012 at 9:20AM and proceed for a Mass of Christian Burial at the St. Joseph Parish, 85 South Main Street, Norwalk, CT 06854 at 10:00AM followed by entombment at the Saint Johns, RC Cemetery, Norwalk.
