George Roman, age 78, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on the morning of Sunday, January 31, 2021. He was predeceased by his mother, Celia and his brother, Carlos.
George was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on June 15, 1942 to Basilio and Celia (Carreras) Roman and was the eldest of three children. At the age of 5 his family moved to New York City. He worked for the McCaffrey & McCall advertising agency where he was the Print Media Manager servicing clients like the New York State Lottery and Mercedes Benz. George and his wife Dolores lived in the Bronx, New York for over 20 years before retiring to Tucson, Arizona. They returned to the east coast, in February 2015, to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Norwalk, Connecticut.
George loved music, especially the oldies. As a young man, he played the drums and later played the “air drums” when listening to the radio. George was a car aficionado – he researched high-end cars, loved going to car shows and did most of his own automotive maintenance. George said if he ever hit the lottery, he would buy a Lamborghini.
George was a quiet and friendly man who was always there to lend a hand. He was also quite the handy man. When asked “How are you doing?” he would respond “I’m still alive!” He kept up on the daily weather and loved to listen to the rain, especially when there was thunder and lightning!
George is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Dolores; his children, Ivan (Caroline) Roman, Denise Roman Gilroy, Elizabeth (Paul) Scarpelli and Stephen (Carol) Walton; his thirteen grandchildren: Austin, Ashlee, Justine, William, Alejandro, Matthew, Dominick, Isabella, Francesca, Emmanuel, Victoria, Ian Luca and Benjamin; sister, Carmen (Louis) Rivera, sister-in-law, Joan Roman, niece, Maria Jimenez and many great nieces and nephews. George will be remembered and sorely missed by all his family and friends.
George will be laid to rest at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org or to the Wilton Meadows Health Care Center nursing home at 439 Danbury Road - Route 7 in Wilton, Connecticut. His family would like to thank the staff at Wilton Meadows for all the care, comfort and support they gave to George and his wife.
