NORWALK, CONN George A. Bex, Sr. of Norwalk passed away on Monday, June 08, 2009 in Norwalk Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late George E. and Mae (Williams) Bex. Shortly following his birth, he and his family returned to England, where he was raised and educated in local schools. Prior to joining the United States Army, George served fourteen months on the English nautical training ship, the Arethusa. Following his discharged from the U.S. Army at Ft. Devens in Massachusetts, George settled in the United States and resided in Stamford, Conn. On April 25, 1954, he married his beloved wife of fifty-six years, Evelyn (Bonds) Bex. They both settled in Norwalk where they raised their son. George worked for Sealtest Dairy of Glenbrook for many years and was a shop steward for its union. After the closure of the Glenbrook facility, he delivered mail for the United States Postal Service in New Canaan, until his retirement in 1993. George was an active man who had a passion for swimming and soccer. He also enjoyed landscaping and carpentry. Along with his wife, he is survived by his son, George A. Bex, Jr. of Norwalk; a brother, James Bex of England; a sister, Vera McMellon of High Point, NC; several nieces and nephews. George's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 6:00PM - 8:00PM. His funeral will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2009 in the parlor at 10:00AM. Rev'd Nicholas Lang of St. Paul's on-the-Green, Norwalk will officiate.
