Gay Wells Loudon-King, 62, of Norwalk, passed away November 22nd peacefully at home. She was the wife of Wm. Lewis King. Gay was the daughter of Anne and step-father Jack Closner (Port Washington, NY and Spring,TX) and M. John Loudon (UK) a Battle of Britain Flight Commander, all of whom preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, her son Andrew and daughter Gracen of Norwalk, CT. She is also survived by her sister Serena Skiffington of Cambridge, MA. as well as many loving and close cousins, nieces and nephews spanning the U.S. and in the United Kingdom.
Gay grew up in Port Washington, NY and graduated from Schreiber High School in 1978. Her many long-term friends from Port have been very supportive, particularly in recent years as she struggled with illness. Gay matriculated to Sweet Briar College in VA and graduated from SUNY Albany. Her studies culminated with a graduate degree in Social Work from Columbia University in 1985. As a licensed psychiatric social worker she was engaged for over 30 years with many local service providers, with focus on mental disabilities and substance abuse issues.
Gay was passionate and active in service to Christ and the Episcopal Church. Married at St. Bartholomew’s Church in New York City 1996, she joined the NY Cursillo and undertook the Education for Ministry program. After moving to Norwalk, she worshiped at Grace Episcopal Church and finally at St. Paul’s on the Green serving as an acolyte, chorister mom and board member of the Seabury Academy of Music and Arts. Gay’s other passions included sailing on Long Island Sound and in NY Harbor (where she met her husband-to-be), reading and literature, theatre arts, good movies, music, baking, parenting, cats and dogs.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday November 11, 2023, 1:30pm at St. Paul’s on the Green, Norwalk, CT. Reception to follow.
