NORWALK, CONN. Fred T. Ernstmeyer of Norwalk passed away Friday, September 5 2008, in the Notre Dame Convalescent Home at the age of 83. He was the husband of the late Doris Amelia (Amundsen) Ernstmeyer. Fred served in the US Navy on the destroyer U.S.S. Benson during World War II. He was a fisherman having made many trips to Alaska and the Miramachi River in Canada. Fred was known for his quick wit with a twinkle in his eye. He was an archer and was a Connecticut State Champion. He is survived by his daughter, Linda S. and her husband, Harvey Thibault of Norwalk; his granddaughter Chelsea Thibault Brookshire; his sister Ellen Anderson of Delray Beach FL; his brother-in-law, Warren Amundsen of Boynton Beach, FL; one niece; one nephew and his beloved Pekinese Honey. Fred's funeral will be held on Friday, October 24, 2008 at 10:30AM in the chapel of the Notre Dame Convalescent Home, 76 West Rocks Road, Norwalk. Interment with full military honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fred's name may be made to the residents fund at Notre Dame Convalescent Home. The family has chosen Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall St., to assist them in the arrangements.
