NORWALK, CONN BASEBALL WAS HIS LIFE Frank Peter, "Lil' Franky" Schettino, III of Norwalk, a strong and courageous former Bambino League Baseball athlete, died Monday, June 20, 2011 in Yale-New Haven Hospital, due to complications of a life-long illness. Frank Schettino was born on September 10, 1989 and was 21 years of age. Franky was a very passionate All Star Athlete since the age of seven and participated in Cal Ripken Baseball League, West Norwalk Bambino All Star League, Babe Ruth League, Brien McMahon Baseball League, along with the Legion Baseball League. He participated in five State Championships and won two World Cup Series throughout the United States. Franky, a life long resident of Norwalk for 21 years, was involved in local retail and restaurant management. He graduated from Brien McMahon High School in 2007. "Baseball was his life." The left-handed hitting Schettino was a starting shortstop and was a well known, talented and respected baseball player in Norwalk History. Frankie was scheduled to coach the Norwalk Legion Baseball League along the side of Jerrold Anastasia this season. Franky was the a star on the field, a fighter for life and to his mother he was her motivation and encouragement to help him continue fighting. Franky was survived by his mother Yolonda Schettino and father Frank Schettino. Most of his family on the maternal side resides in Colombia. His close friends consist of Bianca Hernandez, Shane Smith, Nicolette Bohy,Pablo Hernandez, Lu Guzman, John Paver, Gloria Peneda, and girlfriend Lauren Rossi. We would like to thank all of his friends, the staff in the Yale New Haven Smilow Cancer Center and ICU staff for demonstrating nothing but love and support, especially throughout the past few months. Memorials may be sent to the The Franky Schettino Foundation, at 13 Commerce Street Apartment 2L Norwalk, CT 06850. In lieu of flowers we are accepting donations to help pay for medical/final expenses. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 23, 2011 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 6:00PM - 9:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Franky's life will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, June 24, 2011 at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 85 South Main Street, Norwalk. Please arrive directly to church. At the conclusion of the Mass, a reception will follow at the Pastime Club, 59 Seaview Ave, Norwalk. Interment is to be held privately, at the convenience of the family. Hoyt-Cognetta is honored to care for Franky and his family during this difficult time.
