Franco “Frank” Antonio Somma, of Norwalk, CT peacefully entered into rest on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at the age of 71.
He was born in San Rufo, Italy on September 27, 1950, the son of Nicola and Elisabetta (Tierno) Somma. Frank immigrated to the United States as a young man in his twenties and eventually brought his parents to the United States as well. On August 18, 1979, he was married to JoAnn (Taliercio) Somma. Together, they grew a family, which included three children and they spent 43 beautiful years married.
Frank worked as a property manager in New Canaan for most of his professional career, but he took on many other jobs during his life. Although he had retired officially in 2015, Frank enjoyed interacting with people and he couldn’t stay retired for long! Most recently he was employed with the Town of Westport Parks and Recreation division, a job which he enjoyed very much.
He was a proud member of the St. Ann Club in Norwalk where he spent most of his Friday nights playing cards and drinking wine with his goombah’s. Frank’s greatest love was his family, but runner up was his love of gardening and Italian soccer. Nobody could quite grow the perfect tomato like Frank and although he loved his Italian soccer team, Juventus, you would often hear him yelling at the TV about how all the players must be asleep on the field during a game. Even if his team won, he couldn’t be truly happy knowing they had 3 additional goals in the bag, but missed the net.
Of the many things Frank loved, his most cherished moments were his annual trips to Cape Cod, Sunday family dinners, watching soccer with his children, visiting his birthplace, Italy. He also enjoyed teaching his children and their spouses Italian (even if some were bad words), pinching and kissing the cheeks of his beloved grandsons, and his pets; Rocky, Mia and Luna.
Frank is survived by his loving and devoted wife JoAnn; his daughter Lisa (Somma) Gomez and her husband Diego; his son Jason Somma and his wife Nicole and his youngest son, Marc Somma. He is survived by his two grandsons, Giovanni and Matteo Gomez, whom he loved with every fiber of his being and he was so proud to be their “Nonno”. In addition, he was survived by his sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Elena (Somma) Rofrano of Italy.
Frank was a lively and energetic man who will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him.
