Frank “Sonny” Shimko
On March 27, 2022, Frank “Sonny” Shimko passed away at the age of 87.
A lifelong resident of Norwalk, he is the son of the late Sue (Longobricco) and Frank Shimko. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Joan D. Shimko.
During the Korean War, Frank served two back-to-back world tours of duty on the Navy carrier Dashiell. He was always willing to share his Navy experiences with family and friends.
Later in life, Frank returned to college and received a degree in mental health with honors. He was well known for his work as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor at Norwalk Hospital and Connecticut Renaissance. He was always proud when clients came back to share their success stories with him.
An avid sports fan, he coached Westport PAL football and Senior Babe Ruth baseball, and he umpired many Norwalk baseball games. He enjoyed attending Yankees games with his granddaughter and was happy to be able to attend games at both the old and new Yankee Stadium.
Mr. Shimko is survived by his step-daughter: Kathleen Persons (Ted); his granddaughter: Victoria Fitzsimmons (Robert); his great granddaughter: Brooke Fitzsimmons; stepbrothers: Gary Shimko, Richard Shimko, Tyrone Shimko, Jeff Shimko and Dennis Shimko; sisters: Marianne Frederick and Janet Marsan; and his sister-in-law: Diane Kalnasky. He is predeceased by his sister Joan Roichek.
On Wednesday, March 30, 2022 beginning at 10:00am, funeral services will be held at Raymond Funeral Home, 5 E. Wall Street, Norwalk. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Norwalk.
