RIDGEFIELD, CONN Frances D. Finch, a longtime Norwalk and Ridgefield resident, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2009 in Danbury Hospital, following a brief illness. She was 92. Born on November 1, 1916 in Hamden, Conn, Frances was the daughter of the late Nelson M. and Mary G. (Szymanski) White and graduated from Norwalk High School in 1934. She continued her education at Columbia School of Hygiene in New York, where she obtained her certificate in Dental Hygiene. She practiced her profession for a year at Columbia's clinic before moving to Kerhonkson, NY. Frances married her beloved husband of fifty-three years, John W. Finch, Jr., who died in 1990. Together, they relocated to Norwalk, Conn. where they raised their family. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and reading. Her family was her life and will be missed by all. She is survived by two sons, Jonathan W. Finch of Ridgefield and Wayne M. Finch of Phoenix, AZ; a daughter, Mary E. and her husband, Roger R. Byrd of Mount Airy, MD; a sister, Carolyn Waruch of Kerhonkson, NY; a grandson, Jeffrey W. and his wife, Judy Byrd; two great-grandchildren, Adam Wesley Byrd and Chloe Ann Byrd and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death were two brothers, Charles J. and Wesley S. White and a sister, Vivian Darling. Frances' family will receive friends on Friday, May 8, 2009 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street from 11:00AM to 1:00PM. Her funeral service will follow in the parlor, at the conclusion of calling hours, 1:00PM. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk.
