NORWALK, CONN. Frances B. Baecker, a longtime resident of Norwalk, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2008, at home, after a lengthy illness. She was 88. Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 29, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Mary Durkin Bartley and moved to Norwalk as a young child. She was educated in Norwalk schools and was a homemaker. Frances was an avid sports fan, who rarely missed watching a Mets game, and rarely missed commenting about how the team should be managed! She also enjoyed bowling and was a long time member of a league. She along with her husband enjoyed traveling on cruises through the Panama Canal and the Caribbean, to name a few. She also loved to cook and was known for her "Famous Pumpkin Bread". But most of all, her enjoyment was her family. Affectionately known as Mima to her grandchildren and Frannie to her relatives, she took care of many members of her family over the years. Her laughter and wonderful spirit will be forever in our hearts. She is survived by her beloved husband of sixty-one years, John J. Baecker; two sons, Peter J. and his wife, Ellen K. Baecker of Killingworth, Conn. and Richard J. and his wife, Patricia Baecker of Lancaster, NY; five grandchildren, Justin A., Jared J., Abby C., Joshua J. and Luke B. Baecker; two great-grandchildren, Chloe A. and Molly J. Baecker; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death were two sisters, Dorothy Bartley and Mary Shufelt and a brother, George Bartley. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. Her funeral service will be held privately on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, where she will be laid to rest in St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to: Visiting Nurse Association of Connecticut, 535 Connecticut Avenue, Suite 101, Norwalk, Conn. 06854.
