Fiorentino Vellucci, died unexpectedly last Sunday, March 7, in Norwalk, Conecticut, he was the beloved husband of Alba (his first wife) and Leticia. Father to Antonella, Luciana and Joseph and finally like a father to Rafael and Xiomara.
Born in Lauro, Italy on August 2, 1931, son of Lucia and Mario and the spoiled grandson of nonno Antonio.
With the heart of a traveler and aware that the limit is the sky, in 1970 he embarked with his family on a 12-day trip to "America" in search of new opportunities, making the American dream come true, a dream that was fulfilled not only in him, but in his children and later in his wife Leticia, Rafael and Xiomara, whom he welcomed into his home and heart.
An extraordinary human being, loving with children. Spirited, resourceful, risky, sociable, cheerful and hospitable, who learned from his native land the art of processing tomatoes and with all his charisma sowed, harvested and preserved tomatoes, making his own sauce for his magnificent pasta, inviting family and friends to share his dishes "mangia, mangia" - eat, eat, was his way of inviting and insisting.
He liked to wake up early, as he used to say bed makes you sick, made the bed and liked to adorn it with beautiful dolls.
He left the house every day, giving smiles and greetings to his neighbors and all those he met on his way. They were all his friends.
He was made of tenacity and strength, he fished, sowed, walked and collected the bottles that became a daily devotion. He was already known and loved in this work and with affection his neighbors left bottles by his door and those not so close kept them until he passed by to pick them up.
He was very happy to receive visits from his family and friends, to share a soda, a wine, a plate of pasta or perhaps some cookies singing and clapping to the sound of a tarantella or a ranchera by Vicente Fernández.
There were longings for his homeland, his sisters and brothers, and relatives whom he love with all his soul.
Surely, from now on, in the streets of Norwalk, we will remember a friendly Italian greeting with a big smile "buongiorno, bonacera" of whom we called Fiorentino Vellucci and he will make us feel that heaven does exist.
