Filomena Avellino was born in Naples, Italy on August 14, 1936. She departed this life on September 29, 2020, at the age of 84. She passed away peacefully at Norwalk Hospital surrounded by her family after a courageous two-month hospital stay. She was the loving wife of Luigi Avellino for 59 years, beloved mother to Victor and Maria, and an amazing grandmother to Victor Jr., Joshua, Tiana, and Sal.
Filomena grew up in Ponza, Italy where she met her husband Luigi, (Gigi). They had a storybook romance and were inseparable from the beginning. They did everything together. They came to America with their young son in 1970 and set out for a new adventure. They settled in Norwalk, CT where they lived for over 45 years. She worked side by side with her husband running a business together. She worked at John’s Best Pizza for many years until it closed in 2010. She was everyone’s favorite waitress and many people came there just to see her. She had an amazing personality and was a joy to be around. Every time you were around her you couldn’t help but smile. She made everyone feel at home.
Filomena’s greatest joy was her family. She was a dedicated wife and mother and was always there for her family. She always said that the most wonderful thing she ever did in her life was being a grandmother and it showed in her smile whenever she was around her grandchildren. She found so much happiness in cooking for her family and taking care of them. She had a special bond with each and every one of them.
Filomena enjoyed cooking, going fishing with her grandson, and gardening. She had a beautiful garden and always said that when she went to heaven, she hoped that God would allow her to have her own little garden up there. She had an unshakeable faith and knew that God would always be with her, guiding and strengthening her.
Filomena was an absolute joy to be around. She made everyone laugh and gave the best hugs. She lit up every room she was in and everyone always wanted to be around her. She will be sorely missed and forever in our hearts. The world will not be the same without her.
Filomena is predeceased by her son Victor. She is survived by her beloved husband Luigi, her daughter Maria Quattrocchi and her husband Vinny and their son Sal. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Victor Jr, Joshua, and Tiana. She is also survived by her brothers- and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. She will be eternally missed and forever in our hearts.
