NORWALK, CONN Erika S. Mattson of Norwalk, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2008 in Norwalk Hospital, after being stricken ill. She was 88. Born in Dresden, Germany on February 22, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Emil A. and Lina A. (Wolf) Schonfeld and emigrated to the States with her family at the age of five. She lived in New York City/Queens and graduated from Newtown High School in 1939. She furthered her education with business courses. While in New York, she married her beloved husband, John A. Mattson of thirty-two years, who passed in 1988. In 1967, she and her husband made their home in Norwalk and raised their family. Erika was a homemaker who enjoyed her family and loved life. She was also an avid fan of old movies. She is survived by her son, Edward J. and his wife, Nancy G. Mattson of Port Chester, NY. Friends are invited to call at Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at 10:00AM in the chapel of Ferncliff Cemetery, 280-284 Secor Road, Hartsdale, NY at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 44 Portland Avenue, West Redding, CT 06896.
