Elssy W. Hernandez

Elssy W. Hernandez (Rivas), born on November 14,1953, died peacefully at Yale
Hospital on July 18, 2020. She was a long time Norwalk resident, but spent the last decade of
her life residing in New Canaan, Ct. Born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras in Central America,
where she graduated high school and then went on to work as a clerk in the local courthouse up
until her arrival in the United States in her early twenties. She went on to raise 3 loving children,
2 sons, Carlos Rojas and Mitchell Rivas and her daughter Faaron Rivas who she is survived by
as well as her 25 year husband, Herbert Hernandez, and 3 grandchildren, Cameron McRae,
J.R. Moore and Breyanna Rivas who all love her dearly. She is also survived by 3 brothers,
Alexander Santamaría, Pablo Jimenez and Tedys Rivas, as well as several nieces and
nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. She is predeceased by her mother Amalia Rivas and her
sister Olga Rivas who she was extremely close with.
She had such a beautiful soul and contagious smile. She was a very loving, caring,
honest, hard working, and humble woman. Her last job was as a nanny up until she retired in
2015. She truly enjoyed spending time with her family and loved ones, cooking, sewing,
crocheting, listening to music, shopping with her daughter and going to her grandson’s football
games. She enjoyed all the simplicity in life like nature’s beautiful sceneries, plants, her dog
Olivia and conversing with loved ones. She left an everlasting impression on everyone she met and will continue to be
remembered as a loving mother, spouse, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and
just a beautiful person in general. She will truly be missed.

Friends may pay their respects on Monday July 27, 2020 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the                                                                        Hoyt-Cognetta / Raymond Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street in Historic Norwalk. Interment                                                                              will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk.
