Ellen Ann Morrone peacefully passed away at her home on September 3, 2020. Born on September 16, 1932, Ellen was the daughter of the late Frederick E. and Eleanor (Carbone) Dellaca.
She graduated from Norwalk High School and went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked as a visiting nurse with the Norwalk Health Department.
She was predeceased by her first husband Alan Hegeman, her second husband John Morrone, and her beloved brother Paul F. Dellaca. She is survived by many cousins.
Ellen was a lifetime resident of Norwalk, CT and a dedicated volunteer to both her church and community. She was a devote member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Norwalk for more than 60 years and had served as a Eucharistic Minister, a Catechist and volunteered for many other parish events and ministries. She was a recipient of the Diocese of Bridgeport's St. Augustine Award in 2015 for outstanding service to her parish.
Ellen was immensely passionate about giving back to the community. Her contributions included volunteering at Cancer Care where she received tribute for her service in 2014 as Volunteer of the Year. She was a member of the Columbiettes, the St. Ann's Club, the Humane Society, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Sons and Daughters of Italy, to whom she served on the board.
Her heart and soul belonged to the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk where she provided more than 5,000 volunteer hours. She loved bringing family and friends to visit the Aquarium and to share her interest in marine life. She had a love for animals especially cats, dogs and horses. She especially loved watching The National Dog Show every year while spending Thanksgiving with her cousins.
Ellen was an avid community member of Norwalk and took pride in her knowledge of its heritage. She loved to drive friends and family around town and share her devotion to her town with them. She loved going to restaurants and going out for ice cream. She especially loved attending monthly dinners at the Italia Restaurant in Norwalk with friends from the Sons of Italy.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place for Ellen 10 A.M. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church Saturday, September 19, 2020 followed by a private entombment. The Hoyt-Cognetta / Raymond Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street in Historic Norwalk has been entrusted with arrangements. Please visit www.norwalkfh.com to leave an online condolence for the family.
