Elaine Paula Giczey Andersen, 76, of Norwalk, CT passed away peacefully on Friday, February 16th,2018 surrounded by family at Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. She was born on September 9th, 1941 to the late Paul and Mary Gloria Giczey. Elaine attended Norwalk High School and graduated from Yale University School of Nursing. She was married to Jorn Andersen of Denmark in 1972. Together they had two sons, Christian and Brett. Although Elaine enjoyed nursing out of college, she cherished her time staying home to raise her two sons and took active roles in various community clubs, Band Boosters, and PTO’s . She lovingly supported her husband throughout his career as a plastics engineer which spanned across several states such as VT, NH, NJ, IL, GA, IN and lastly NY. In 1997, Elaine and her husband joyfully moved back to Norwalk to her family home. Elaine worked for Stamford Public Schools as a teaching assistant for many years, finally retiring in 2013. She spent many summer days basking in the sun at the beach, which was her favorite pastime. She frequently visited friends and family in Vermont over holidays and long weekends. She loved her family fiercely and enjoyed sending care packages for every holiday. She always put other’s needs before her own.
She is survived by her two loving sons, Christian and his wife Tracey of Newburgh, IN and Brett and his wife Jahari of Brookline, VT. Also surviving are her three beautiful grandsons, Brock, Soren and Austen Andersen. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, sister Joy Giczey and husband, Jorn Andersen.
A memorial service will be held on March 29th, 2018 from 2pm-6pm at Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street, Norwalk, with burial the following day at St. John Cemetery.
