Edward J. Zigmond, age 77, beloved husband of 50 years to Dorothy Backes Zigmond of Norwalk, passed away peacefully at home early Sunday morning, January 13, 2013. Mr. Zigmond was born on March 18, 1935 in Rockville and was a son to the late Francis and Marian Tarcha Zigmond. He served our country in the Army Reserve. He earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Hartford and spent many years working in the nuclear energy industry. Most recently, he retired as a Project Manager for the Port Authority of NY & NJ, surviving the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center. In addition to his wife Dorothy, Edward is survived by his son Gary Zigmond & his wife Katherine of Redding; two daughters and their husbands, Sheryl & Michael DePanfilis of Lancaster, PA and Donna & Alex Tosi of Montvale, NJ; two brothers Robert Zigmond of Vernon and Raymond Zigmond of Manchester; two sisters Carolyn Jones of Vernon and Lorraine Johnston of Coventry; eight grandchildren, Stephen & Timothy Zigmond, Gregory, Matthew, Kiersten & Bradley DePanfilis, and Justin & Amanda Tosi. Edward found great joy in spending time with his family, being outdoors, and supporting his beloved UCONNBasketball teams and Boston Red Sox. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, 98 Riverside Ave., Westport.
