Duane F. Light, 64, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2017 after a brief illness. Born in Norwalk on March 25, 1952, he was the only child of William R. and Ruth T. Light.
To all who had the great pleasure of knowing him, Duane truly mastered the art of living life to the fullest and achieved his own particular version of the American Dream. Duane married his childhood sweetheart, Roberta Avnayim, and together over the next forty-six years of tempestuous perfection, these two eternal teenagers raised three children in Norwalk before moving to Weston and later Trumbull.
A talented gymnast at Ponus Ridge Junior High School, Duane grew to be a dedicated bodybuilder who had a passion for working out. The little boy who rode his minibike around Kendall School became a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast and Harley Davidson owner who enjoyed riding and attending bike shows across the country. The kid who treated his friends to tractor rides at his grandparents' farm would one day drive the great tri axle dump trucks as his profession for Burns Construction.
During his final years, there was nothing more fun for both Duane and Roberta than to spend time and enjoy parenting again with their five grandchildren, where true to himself as always, Duane remained the biggest kid of all.
Duane is survived by his wife Roberta, three children, Duane "D.J." Light, (Sharon Coffey), Sean Light (wife Jennette), and Erica Gardener-Light, (husband Graham), as well as step daughter, Theresa Bartovic; along with his grandchildren, Brie-Ann, Angelina, Kayla, Daniel, and Eric.
Friends are invited Saturday March 4, to attend the memorial service from 12pm to 4pm at the Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home, 5 East Wall St. Norwalk. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made directly to the American Cancer Society. Please visit www.norwalkfh.com for more information.
