NORWALK, CONN David J. Finch, an educator and sports fanatic, passed away in his Norwalk home on Saturday, September 24, 2011 after a fifteen month battle of Melanoma. He was 51 and the beloved husband of twenty-nine years to Lisa A. (Mastropietro) Finch. Born in Norwalk, Conn on March 21, 1960 to Anne C. Finch and the late F. Earl Finch, David was a graduate of Columbus University. His love of sports, learning and children sculpted his entire adult life. Most recently, he enjoyed his time as a science teacher at All Saints Catholic School. David's students knew him for his creative teaching styles and his hands on experiments that often integrated his love of experimental culinary creations. He also worked for Pepperidge Farm, Laidlaw in Wilton, and New Canaan Schools. One of David's true passions in life was sports. He coached, commissioned and refereed in many basketball programs including the NAA Girls Basketball League, the GBA and St. Luke's Academy. He umpired and coached throughout various regional girls softball leagues and boys little league over the past 25+ years. Along with his wife and mother, David is survived by his three loving daughters: Erin, Kacie, and Kari Finch; a son: Jesse Finch; as well as his grandson: Dylan Finch. He is also survived by a sister: Carol McConway and two brothers: Donald and Fred Finch. He was predeceased by his brother Billy Finch. A Memorial Mass celebrating David's life will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2011, at 7:00PM in St. Matthew R.C. Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk. There are no calling hours or interment.
