NORWALK, CONN Daniel Thomas Platt, I, 57, a lifelong Norwalk resident, passed into the arms of the Lord, on Sunday, January 01, 2012 in Norwalk Hospital, while surrounded by his loving family. He had fought a long valiant battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He was the beloved husband to Rita A. (Graham) Platt of ten years. Born in Norwalk on October 25, 1954, he was the son of the late Harold E. Platt Sr. and Margaret (Hoyt) Platt-Murphy and attended local schools. Danny was a handy man who worked as a local welder and painter. He proudly served our Nation in the United States Army and the National Guard. Danny's enjoyments included playing pool and cards. He had a particular fondness for Mother Nature. Danny was a people person' who could be found chatting with complete strangers, making instant friends. He also thrived on making people laugh and smile, as it always gave him an inner peace. A commitment to the community, Danny volunteered at the Oyster Festival and was recently appointed Certified Moderator of the Connecticut Election Committee at the Nathaniel Ely Elementary School, following many dedicated years of service. He was also a member of St. Matthew R.C. Church of Norwalk. In addition to his loving wife, Danny is survived by his son, Daniel T. Platt, II. of Torrington; his daughter, Angela D. Platt of Norwalk; four brothers, Doug, Gary, Chris and Jim Platt; many grandchildren, including, Julissa, Nathan and Daniel, III; an Aunt, Mary DePietro of Ridgefield; two stepsons, Raymond and Tony Rivera, both of Norwalk; a step-daughter, Pamela Rivera of Norwalk; a step-granddaughter, Shamara Reid; a step-great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Reid; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding in death was a brother, Harold E. Platt,Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Saturday, January 07, 2012 in St. Matthew R.C. Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk. Interment and calling hours will be private.
