NORWALK, CONN Claude J. Christian of Norwalk passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 in Norwalk Hospital, following a brief illness. He recently celebrated his 76th birthday. Born on November 07, 1933 in Lincoln, Rhode Island, Claude was the son of the late Marcel J. and Elizabeth M. (Wupperfield) Christian. He relocated to Norwalk at a young age, attended local schools and proudly served as a US Marine during the Korean Conflict. Claude was a Constable for many years, before retiring. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching his favorite baseball team, the New York Mets. Claude also loved to swim and in his younger years, won the "City Championship" award in 1942 and 1943 of Norwalk for freestyle swimming. Additionally, he enjoyed traveling abroad. Claude was a member of the VFW Post 399 of Westport, the DAV and the Marine Corp League. He is survived by three sons, Christopher, Darryl and Mark Christian. Additional, he leaves his former wife and friend, Debra M. Kenez with whom he lived with. He is predeceased by a half sister, Marcella "Susie" Christian who passed in 1955. Honoring Claude's wishes, interment with full military honors will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009 in Union Cemetery, Norwalk. He has asked that Memorial Contributions may be made to the Humane Society or PAWS of Norwalk. There are no calling hours. His family has selected Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street to assist them in the arrangements.
