Christine Joyce Elkins

June 24, 1941 — March 9, 2019

On Saturday, March 9th, 2019, Christine Elkins, loving mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 77.

Christine was born on June 24th, 1941 in Buffalo, New York. She attended Bishop Colton High School and D'Youville College, where she studied medical technology and laboratory science. On February 20th, 1965, she married Charles Elkins and together they raised twins, Gregory Hamilton and Stephanie Elkins.

Christine's married life was spent moving from one end of the country to the other and back again. She lived in New York, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Colorado, California and, finally, Connecticut, where she resided from 1982 until her passing. She worked as a histologist at Norwalk Hospital from 1987 until her retirement in 2007, and worked at Danbury, Greenwich and Stamford Hospitals in this capacity as well.

Christine was a private woman with an abiding love and concern for her family. She was a dedicated champion of relatives' athletic endeavors and could often be found cheerleading at Gregory and Stephanie's running, swimming and cycling events as well as her grandson's soccer games.

She was also a talented and passionate cook, frequently researching and experimenting with recipes which she would delight in sharing with others. Some of her most distinctive and memorable creations include her chicken soup, raspberry chipotle chicken, gazpacho as well as the yearly Thanksgiving dinner she prepared for her local family members. We will remember her in love and fondness as we recreate these recipes and try to match her talent in doing so. In addition, Christine loved spend her time searching for thrifted treasures, seeking interesting and unusual objects which spoke to her sweet, curious and unique nature. She will also be remembered for her desire to help relatives and friends in need, often giving of herself to make life easier for others.

Christine is survived by her twins, Gregory Elkins and Stephanie Enriquez, her grandsons, Jeren and Jace, her younger brother, Robert Wagner and his family, as well as two stepbrothers, James and David Warda and their families. She is also loved and missed by her daughter-in-law, Janet Jacobs, as well as her son-in-law, Jerico Enriquez. She is preceded in death by her ex-husband, Charles Elkins and her stepbrother Robert Warda.

As these written words will never be able to convey the depth of feeling we are experiencing at her loss, nor the richness of her experience in life, we hope that you will join us for a memorial service, to be announced and held in the near future, and share your own recollections of Christine. She will always be loved and missed.

A memorial will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at The Norwalk Inn, 99 East Avenue, Norwalk. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital and Friends of Felines.
