NORWALK, CONN Christina Olivieri of Norwalk passed away in her sleep on Saturday, December 10, 2011 in Norwalk Hospital, while surrounded by her loving family. She was 80 years old and the beloved wife to the late John F. Olivieri of twenty-eight years. Born in Palermo, Sicily on January 5, 1932, Christina was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Caterina (Mineo) Albanese and attended local schools. She emigrated to the States in 1969, where she and her husband settled in Norwalk to raise their family. As a homemaker, Christina enjoyed cooking and hosting many gatherings at her residence. Her passion in life was to surround herself amongst her family and friends. In Christina's spare time, playing bingo, holding memberships at St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church, The VFW Women's Auxiliary of Westport and the Westport Senior Center kept her active in the community. She also enjoyed plantings and flowers. Christina is survived by her loving sons, Stephen J. Olivieri and his wife, Maria of Norwalk and John E. Olivieri and his wife, Jennifer of Westport; two grandchildren, Melania C. and Kai J. Olivieri; three sisters, all of Sicily and many nieces and nephews. The Olivieri family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 4:00PM - 8:00PM. Christina's funeral will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 9:20AM from the parlor, when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue, Norwalk, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM. The Rev. Robert Crofut will officiate. Entombment will follow in Willowbrook Cemetery, Westport.
