Carmine Anthony Ragosa

July 17, 1938 — March 3, 2025

Carmine Anthony Ragosa, 86, of Norwalk, CT died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 3, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Norwalk on July 17, 1938, to Ciro and Carmela Ragosa. Carm graduated from Norwalk H.S., earned an AS degree from Danbury State, and continued his studies at Bridgeport Engineering Institute.

He served in the National Guard from January 1957, honorably discharged in April 1961.

On October 5, 1957, he married Constance Smith. He began his career at Sperry Semi-Conductor then dedicated 28 years to Barnes Engineering Co., as a Program Manager, advancing to Vice President of the Defense and Space Systems Group overseeing several high-profile NASA and military programs. The Barnes Engineering Space initiatives were not only the engineering of world class infrared sensors technology for the Mercury and Bios mission, but the story of how a group of young men from all walks of life rose to the challenge to develop and produce the sensors used by over 90 percent of USA Space missions. Some of their work is on display in the  Apollo capsules at the Air and Space Museums on the Washington Mall and in Virginia. Carm was most proud of contributing to, and being a part of, this exciting era. He finished his professional career with 12 years at Norden Systems in Norwalk. His ability to remain cool during complex negotiations was inspirational.

Carm was a man of many talents, including all aspects of carpentry, completing numerous renovations of his and his children’s homes. He loved boating on Long Island Sound and early on was a member of the Norwalk Power Squadron and South Norwalk Boat Club. Golf was another passion. He organized various golf outings and tournaments, playing many rounds of golf with his family and friends, sinking six hole-in-ones over his lifetime. Carm was a lifetime member and Trustee of the Sons and Daughters of Italy Pietro Micca Lodge #744 and the acting Treasurer of their Foundation.

Carmine is survived by his wife Connie of 67 years and his four children, Lizbeth (Carl) Edwards, Lori (David) Newsom, Christopher Ragosa, and Leslie (Mark) Trifilio; seven beloved grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; a sister Matilda Valley, a brother Jerry (Maggie) Ragosa, a sister Joanne (Greg) Borsinger, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Carm was predeceased by his sister Patricia Soltesz.

A wake will be held at the Raymond Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street in Historic Norwalk, CT from 3-7 pm, Friday, March 7, 2025. A private family burial will be held on Saturday, March 8.
