Betty Joyce Grey age 77 was called by God to Heaven on January 31, 2016 after a short illness, surrounded by her loving children. She was wife to the late Nelson Howard Grey. Born in Belfast, Maine on July 27, 1938 to the late Everett A. and Lorraine Carter. Betty was raised in Rockland, Maine where she attended local schools. At the age of 18 she and her husband relocated to Norwalk, CT. She was a loving mother to her daughter Barbara Louise Grey of Redding; sons Richard K. Grey of Seymour, William H. Grey and his wife Dana of Monroe, and Robert S. Grey and his wife Jan of Bridgeport; Step-daughters Deborah Grey Rhodes of Rockland, ME. Donna Grey Diamond of Danvers, MA.; grandchildren Ricky Grey of Center Belmont, ME and Melissa Dagostino of Loudon, Tenn.; brother-in-law Bruce Grey and his wife Lorraine of Stonington; sister-in-law Norma Carter of Turner, ME; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephew and friends. Betty was predeceased by her brother Everett A. Carter, Jr. and her half-brothers William and Lewis Edwards. She was employed at Lavender Laundry in Norwalk for many years as well as being a cook for clergy at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Norwalk where she was a parishioner.
Friends are invited to greet the family on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in Norwalk’s Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street, A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday 10:30 AM Directly at St. Mary’s Church, 669 West Ave. Norwalk. Interment will be private and at a later date.
