Benedetto "Ben" Guarino age 95 of Norwalk, passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side. Born in North Bergen NJ on February 27, 1920 he was a son to the late Frank and Frances DiSalvo Guarino. A veteran of both the Korean War and WWII. Ben was drafted to serve 4 years in the army. Stationed in India Staff Sargent Guarino worked with many others to construct and operate an oil pipeline, which would be used to pump gasoline from Calcutta to Kung Ming, China. He remained in India until the end of the war. During wartime on March 6, 1943 Ben traveled home to marry his sweetheart Cristina Cascio. In March 2004 they celebrated 63 years together. After his discharge from the Army in January 1946 Ben elected to serve his county further by joining the Navy Reserves. He was stationed aboard the USS AJax in 1951. In 1955 Ben was on the move again. Together with his wife and daughter Linda the family purchased a home in Norwalk, CT. After 20 years as general manager for the B. Lipnick Supply Corp. of Bridgeport, Ben retired in the early 80's to live out a full and rich life in his Norwalk home. He was a member of many organizations: Jr. Navigator in Norwalk Power Squadron; Honorary Lifetime Member Ischoda Yacht Club Treasurer; American Legion; AARP/Chapter #2011; Norwalk Senior Center; Currier for Meals on Wheels Affectionately called "Pop" by all, he especially liked, Boating, Fishing, Travel, Fixing things, Raising tropical fish, Chess, Cats & Hats, Reading and of course Hoboken's own Frank Sinatra. He is survived by his daughter Linda Aulenti, two granddaughters, Melissa Nadin-Messner and Meredith Anne Briganti. and three great grandchildren, Jordan Messner, Kirsten Messner & Nicholas Briganti. Predeceased by his wife, Cristina Guarino , his brother Sal Guarino, and grandson Kevin Nadin. Friends may greet the family on Friday October 2, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday October 3, 2015 at 10:00 AM DIRECTLY at St. Matthew's Church, 216 Scribner Ave. Entombment will follow with full military Honors at St. John's Mausoleum, Norwalk.
