Arthur A. Conti of Stamford, passed away on Saturday , September 5, 2009 in Paradigm Healthcare Center of Norwalk, following a lengthy illness. He was 84. His beloved wife, Katherine (Betty) (McArdle) Conti of forty-five years, passed away in 1999. Born in Ambler, PA on February 10, 1925, Arthur was the son of Francesco and Tomasina Conti and was raised in Stamford from the age of three. He attended local schools and served our country during WWII in the US Navy and was awarded numerous metals for his heroic and honorable service to our Nation. He served in the Merchant Marines after WW II. Arthur was employed by the City of Stamford public school system as a custodian and truck driver for thirty-three years. After his retirement in 1997, he was able to spend more time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Arthur loved to cook and was known for his Italian cookies. He enjoyed gardening and growing some of the finest tomatoes, which he gave away to many people. He was also an artist and an avid photographer. He has preserved cherished memories on film and tape of his family and friends for many years. He was a member of the NRA and Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 13 of Stamford. His warm smile will be missed by all. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Liz) and his son-in-law, James R. Egan of Norwalk; two grandchildren, Arthur A. and James M. Egan, both of Norwalk, a sister in law, Mary Ambrogio of Stamford, and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death were two brothers, Giuseppe (Joe) and Pasquale (Pat) Conti and three sisters, Nancy Greco, Lillian McNamara and Esther Sestito. Arthur's family will receive friends on Monday , September 7 2009 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 5:00PM - 8:00PM. His service will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 in the parlor at 10:00AM. Interment with full military honors will follow the service in St. John Cemetery, Norwalk. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Disabled American Veterans or to the National Stroke Association.
