Anthony Joseph Stramaglia Sr

September 30, 1927 — September 14, 2008

Rowayton, Conn. Anthony J. Stramaglia, Sr. of Rowayton, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2008 in Norwalk Hospital, following a long illness. He was 80 years of age. Born in Stamford on September 30, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Lucille (Marino) Stramaglia and graduated from Stamford High School in 1944. He continued his education at Wright Technical School. Anthony served his country after WWII as a Staff Sergeant with the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He returned to Stamford until 1962 and resided in Darien for 13 years before settling between Florida and Rowayton. Anthony owned and operated A & S Ceramic Tile and Darien Tile and Marble Center for nearly thirty years and continued tile contracting throughout Fairfield County until his retirement. He was a fun-loving man who enjoyed nature, cooking and eating, music and dancing, as well as archery. But his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He is survived by his wife, Yolanda A. (Mercurio) Stramaglia of Norwalk; a sister, Josephine Buzzeo of Davey, FL; two sons, Dr. John A. Stramaglia of Southport and Anthony J. Stramaglia, Jr.and his wife, Elaine of Mesa, AZ; two daughters, Denise A. Byington and her husband, Gary of Norwalk and Michele L. Gallucci of Trumbull; six grandchildren, Danielle, Brandon, Tiffany, Jason, Gia and Nicole; a great-grandson, Shaye and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Anthony's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street, Norwalk, from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. His funeral service will be held in the funeral parlor at the conclusion of calling hours at 8:00PM. Interment with full military honors will be held at St. John's Cemetery, Darien at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO BOX 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 (www.diabetes.org).
