Resident of Norwalk Anthony J. Amato III, age 58, loving husband of Noreen DePanfilis Amato, passed away March 4th at Norwalk Hospital. In addition to his wife Noreen, he leaves a daughter Jenny and a son Anthony. Tony was born on March 21, 1956 in Norwalk to the late Anthony J. Amato, Jr. & Virginia Lewis Amato. He was a foreman for the Town of Westport and former Volunteer Fireman and Special Police Officer for the Town. After graduation from Staples High School, Tony earned an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and played football with the Yonkers Packers Semi-Pro Team for several years. He enjoyed coaching for several Norwalk Youth Organizations and was an active member of the Round Hill Volunteer Fire Company of Greenwich. Tony gave selflessly not only to his family, but gave the wonderful gift of life to others through organ donations. A wonderful display of his selflessness can be seen by the New England Organ Donation Flag flying high at Norwalk Hospital this week. Tony will be sadly missed by his friends and family. Friends are invited to greet the family on Sunday, March 8th from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 9th at 10:00 am DIRECTLY at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave, Norwalk. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Norwalk.
