WESTPORT, CONN Alan J. Laska, Esq., 59, of Westport, Conn, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2011 in the Rosenthal Hospice of Stamford, following a remarkable battle with renal cell carcinoma. He was the beloved husband to Josephine (Fabietti) Laska and devoted father of David Laska and Alexander Laska. He also leaves behind his brother Mel Laska and his wife, Rita, and his sister-in-law, Marie Deangelis and her husband, Peter, and his brother-in-law, Richard Fabietti and his wife, Luann, as well as several nephews, nieces and grand-nieces and a grandnephew. Born in Brooklyn, New York on March 5, 1951, Alan was the son of the late Israel and Basia (Goldfarb) Laska. After graduating from Brooklyn College in 1973, Alan accepted a position with the Social Security Administration, working in various positions in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Several years later he pursued a law degree at night at New York Law School while working full time for SSA. He received his JD magna cum laude in 1984 from New York Law School where he served on Law Review. Following Law School graduation, Alan became an Associate at Kelley Drye and Warren LLP. Upon his death he was a partner in the firm's New York office and co-chair of the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice group. A resident of Westport for the past 19 years, Alan enjoyed golf, walks at Compo Beach and spending time with family and friends, who will remember his wit, his independence, his tough-mindedness and courage, especially at the end of his life. The Laska family will receive friends on Saturday, January 15, 2011 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 1:00PM - 3:00PM. Interment will be held privately at a later date in Willowbrook Cemetery, Westport. Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of one's choice.
