Alan T. Egeland

Alan T. Egeland of Norwalk, entered into rest peacefully on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at his home, following a long illness from Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease. He was 51 years of age. Born in Manhattan on November 9, 1956, Alan was the son of the late Louis and Alberta (Olsen) Egeland. He was a longtime resident of Norwalk and graduated from Brien McMahon High School in 1974. Following graduation, Alan moved to Norway for eight years, utilizing his dual citizenship and served in its Coast Artillery branch of the Army in Kristeansand. Upon his return to the States, he worked with his late brother Louis in the field of Hardwood Floor Contracting and subsequently owned and operated Land Flooring of Norwalk for over twenty-five years. He and his wife were avid travelers and he enjoyed skiing and bowling. But most importantly, he who always had a smile on his face, loved spending time with family and friends. Alan was a lifelong member of both the Sons of Norway Skaugum Lodge and the Scandinavia Club, both of Fairfield. He is survived by his beloved wife Debra (Bondi) Mirabel; a stepdaughter, Aimee Mirabel of Boston, Mass.; a sister, Ann Marie Britton of Naugatuck; two brothers, Gary and Robert Egeland, both of Naugatuck; a nephew, Robert Cyr; three nieces, Jennifer Barbozas, Melissa Egeland and Kristie Britton; in addition to his aunt, uncle, cousins and many lifelong friends located in Kvinesdal, Norway. Preceded in death was a brother, Louis Egeland, Jr. Alan's family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, September 28, 2008 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 1:00PM to 4:00PM. His funeral will be held on Monday, September 29, 2008 in the funeral parlor at 10:00AM. The Reverend Robert D. Beinke will officiate. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk.
